Gavel Award

Judge Crummey has long recognized the value of civics education and the importance of educating students regarding the judicial branch. In 2007, to help promote such education, the Judge initiated his Gavel Award.

The Gavel Award is presented annually to a teacher in the Town of Colonie, New York, who promotes knowledge of the Courtroom in the classroom.

The Judge makes an in-class presentation to each recipient, articulating the reasons why the educator was selected.
